Over the years, we’ve been fortunate enough to spend many of our summer holidays at some of the amazing beaches around the Coromandel Peninsula. The times spent in this area with family & friends, are unquestionably my most favourite part of the year. During the day we enjoy quintessential kiwi summer activities such as swimming, bushwalking, fishing, and exploring nearby islands. While our evenings are often taken up with BBQ’s or the classic fish & chips dinner on the beach. There are always plenty of people - and lots of games, fun and laughter!
It's because of the special memories made at beaches like Whangamata, Whitianga, Matarangi and Kuaotunu; that the Opito Bay collection is so sentimental to me. Optio Bay is one of our favourite spots, where we enjoy the marine life and long walks on the white sandy beach. We’ve seen jellyfish, crabs and starfish …. and once even saw a pod of killer whales pass through! Though my favourite would have to be the playful dolphins that can occasionally be seen from the shore – they always seem so happy and of course are adorable! The dolphin pattern featured in the Opito Bay collection transpired from recollections of good times and my love of these extraordinary sea creatures.
